Raleigh, NC – Peace College trailed by eleven coming out of the half, but it was all Pacers in the second period. Peace took the lead with six minutes remaining in the game when Brittany Lynn hit a jumper to put the Pacers up 50-49. Peace had trailed by as many as sixteen points during the second period, but battled back to take the lead with Lynn’s conversion. Shenandoah would not go away and matched every Peace basket for the remainder of the game and converted on a few key free throws to defeat the Pacers 61-57 in USA South Conference action on Sunday.

Early in the first half the game resembled that of a tennis match as both teams scampered from one end of the court to the other. The Hornets then found their rhythm. Led by post player Cassie Womack underneath, the visitors snatched every possible rebound. Womack pulled down one rebound for each minute she played in the contest. In early foul trouble, the team leader brought down twenty total boards while scoring eight on the offensive side. With the help of Womack, Shenandoah opened up a commanding thirteen point lead late in the first half. A few important free throws helped cut the Hornets lead to eleven as time expired in the first stanza.

The second half was a Brittany Lynn coming out party. Lynn, who recorded fourteen points, found easy ways to put the ball through the hoop from her post position, including the basket which gave Peace a lead late in the second half. Shenandoah’s Alicia Sanders made sure the lead was short lived. With four and a half to go in the game Sanders nailed a three pointer to give the Hornets the lead once again. Peace would answer back as LeAnne Horne drove to the basket for a lay up to tie the game at 52-52. Guard Christy Freeman, who finished the game with ten points, would hit the front end of her free throw opportunity, but failed to convert the second and Peace led 53-52. Stephanie Harrold brought the visitors right back when she hit a jumper to put the Hornets up by a point, a lead they would not relinquish.

The Pacers were led by Lynn (fourteen points) and Freeman (ten points), while Kim Zullo and LeAnne Horne chipped in eight and six points respectively. Lauren Seeger led the Pacers in rebounding as she snagged nine total boards followed by Lynn who was just two rebounds shy of a double-double.

Peace falls to 5-7 overall (0-3 USA South) and will take the show on the road this week as they travel down to Fayetteville, NC to battle Methodist University on Thursday night at 7:00 PM. The Pacers will them come home for the biggest rivalry game of the year as they host cross town foe Meredith College on Saturday. Tip off for that event is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
