Raleigh, NC – Peace College held a seven point lead heading into half time, but exploded in the second half to defeat cross-town rival Meredith College 64-46 on Saturday afternoon at the Hermann Student Center on the Peace campus. The Pacers and Angels went basket for basket early in the second half, but point guard Christy Freeman sparked a Peace onslaught just five minutes into the final stanza. Freeman pulled up and hit a three pointer to give the Pacers their biggest lead of the game at fifteen and then pulled up from twelve feet out to hit a jumper to extend the Peace lead to seventeen with twelve minutes to go in the game.

Meredith’s point guard Nicole Hall wasted no time giving the capacity crowd something to cheer about. Hall needed just two minutes to record her 1000th point as an Angel. The junior hit a jump shot from ten feet out to put Meredith on the board, and then she hit consecutive free throws to achieve the milestone. Hall finished the game with ten points.

Although Hall produced some early fireworks, it was Freeman who took over the game. The sophomore guard caught on fire by hitting 50% of her field goal attempts while she stayed perfect from the charity stripe. Freeman led all scorers with twenty points, while fellow guard LeAnne Horne pitched in eleven points in the winning effort.

While the guards were busy scoring for the Pacers, post player Lauren Seeger was a beast in the paint. Seeger snagged twelve boards to lead all game participants while scoring eight on the offensive side. Meredith was led by Brittany Cornelius who added fourteen points for the Angels in the losing effort followed by Hall’s ten points.

The win improves Peaces’ overall record to 6-8 on year, while Meredith is still looking to find their groove as they fall to 1-11 this season. The Pacers came one step closer to tying the series record between the two schools as the Angels still hold a 13-8 advantage over Peace since the Pacers became a four year institution in 1996.

Peace will hit the court again on Wednesday when they play host to Greensboro College in USA South action. The two teams will tip off at 7:00 PM. Meredith is back in action again on Monday when they travel to Salem College with game time slated for 7:00 PM as well.
