Raleigh, NC – The Peace versus Meredith rivalry continues to prove that home court is certainly an advantage. The Angels used a strong home crowd and offensive explosion to defeat the Pacers 74-69 Saturday afternoon in NCAA division III women’s basketball action.

The two teams went shot for shot in the first half until Meredith guard Brittany Cornelius hit two free throws with seven seconds remaining to give the Angels a four point lead heading into intermission with the score 31-27, but the lead would not last much longer than the fifteen minute half time break.

The Pacers came out in the second half on fire. The Pacers came out on an 11-1 run to vault the visitors into the lead 38-32. The lead could easily be credited to the stellar play of guards Christy Freeman and LeAnne Horne, as well as post players Emily Deal and Brittany Lynn. Freeman and Horne led the Pacers on offense with fourteen and fifteen points respectively. Deal and Lynn both chipped in nine and ten points on the night to add to the offensive output for Peace.

The game would take a turn for the worse for the Pacers from there. The two teams would exchange the lead up until the 1:49 mark of the second half before Nicole Hall gave the Angels the go ahead score. Peace would put pressure on Meredith, but the Angels were solid from the free throw line down the stretch. Meredith would reel off eight straight free throws to close the game and give the home team another victory in the series.

Although the Pacers could not pull out the victory, they did have plenty to be happy about. In addition to the strong offensive showing by Horne, Freeman, Deal, and Lynn, it was Lauren Seeger who had the best overall performance. Seeger recorded another double-double with her performance from the field as well as on the boards. The sophomore added ten points on offense, while pulling down ten rebounds from her post position. Another Pacer, guard Amanda Cross, added ten points in the losing effort for Peace, giving them five players in double digit scoring.

As the season winds down the Pacers (8-14 overall, 2-9 USA South) will turn their attention towards conference competition. Peace closes the season out this upcoming week as they visit Greensboro College on Tuesday night before returning home to end the regular season with games versus Averett University and Ferrum College this weekend. Tip off for the Greensboro is slated for 7:00 PM in Greensboro.
