Raleigh, NC
– The Peace College basketball team took their
show on the road this weekend to face a pair of USA
South Conference foes, but was unable to find a victory.
The Pacers were defeated by Christopher Newport University
67-74 on Saturday, while they were no match for Shenandoah
University on Sunday as they fell 83-57 to the home
Hornets.
Peace led by as many as nine points half way through
the second half of their contest with the Captains,
but squandered the lead, while being dominated on the
boards late in the second half to fall 67-74 to Christopher
Newport. The Pacers were led by a trifecta of scorers
in the game. Guards Christy Freeman, LeAnne Horne, and
Amanda Cross led Peace on the offensive end, but the
Pacers were no match for the Captains in the paint.
Freeman led all game scorers with 17-points, while Horne
and Cross scored fifteen and twelve points respectively.
Although the Pacers had no problems putting points on
the board, they did have problems with gaining extra
possessions via rebounds. CNU almost doubled the rebound
effort of the visitors as they snagged 42 boards, while
Peace could only muster 23 total rebounds in the game.
The Saturday loss dropped the Pacers to 7-12 overall
(1-8 USA South).
On Sunday the Pacers walked into a Hornets nest and
were stung from the get-go. Peace fell behind early
to Shenandoah and could not recover as they were defeated
83-57 to complete the road trip. Peace was again led
on the offensive side by guard Christy Freeman. The
sophomore put up thirteen points, while her counterpart
Kim Zullo added nine points. LeAnne Horne also added
eight points in the losing effort.
Once again the Pacers were beaten on the boards. The
Hornets pulled in fifty-four rebounds on the afternoon,
while Peace came up on the short end with thirty-three.
Peace saw their record fall to 7-13 overall (1-9 USA
South Conference), but returns to USA South action on
Thursday February 8th as they host the Monarchs of Methodist
University. Methodist defeated the Pacers earlier in
the year 84-67 in Fayetteville, NC, Tip off is scheduled
for 7:00 PM. Peace looks to gain some momentum heading
into the weekend as they travel down the road to visit
cross-town rival Meredith College on Saturday. Tip off
will commence at 2:00 PM on the campus of the Angels.
