Rocky Mount,
NC - Sophomore Rachel Rosenbarker and freshman Meredith
Hester each scored two goals on Monday afternoon, leading
the Bishop women’s soccer team of North Carolina
Wesleyan to a 5-0 USA South win over visiting Peace
College. Reva McCloud added Wesleyan’s other score
as the Bishops even their record a 4-4-1 on the season,
2-2-0 in league play. The Pacers are now 2-7-0 overall,
0-4-0 in conference action.
Hester scored what would prove to be the gamewinner
on a penalty kick at the 11:55 mark. McCloud pushed
the score to 2-0 with an unassisted goal off a keeper
deflection just three minutes later, and Hester rounded
out the first-half scoring with her second goal in the
25th minute.
Rosenbarker netted both second-half
goals for the Bishops, the first in the 52nd minute
off of a Aubrey Bonorden corner kick. Rosenbarker’s
second goal came just four minutes later when a scramble
in the box left her to touch the ball past PC keeper
Emily Stewart, unassisted.
Emily Stewart recorded nine saves in
the game as Wesleyan out-shot the Pacers 25-6 on the
day. NCWC goalies Cary Trump and Sarah Hess shared the
shutout with each making one save.
The Pacers return to action on Thursday
when they travel to Salem College. Game time 5:00 pm.
