Winston
Salem/Raleigh, NC – Peace College played like
a team on a mission on Tuesday versus Salem College
earning a pair of victories, then carried their momentum
into Wednesday as they visited in-town rival Meredith
College. Peace dominated the Angels while cruising to
two wins in the double-header to cap off a two day,
four game win streak which saw the Pacers outscore Salem
and Meredith 78-6 in their four games on Tuesday and
Wednesday afternoons.
Peace obviously had no trouble finding their tempo on
offense as they visited Winston Salem on Tuesday. Peace
was able to shut out the Spirit of Salem in both games
while sailing to a 19-0 and 25-0 in the two game series.
Peace was anything short of having heroes in game one
versus Salem. The Pacers cranked out eighteen hits in
the game led on offense by Summer Evans who enjoyed
a 3 for 4 effort at the plate, including four runs batted
in. Ashley Stansbury matched Evans’ run output
by plating four runners of her own while going 2 for
4 in the batters box. Ashley Weathersbee knocked in
three runs of her own, while going 2 for 5 at the plate.
Kenni Seagroves, Brittany Coffee, and Kristen Crandall
all added two RBI’s in the winning effort. Tyler
Riggan went the distance for the Pacers on the mound.
Riggins, who struck out eight batters, gave up only
three hits to eighteen batters on the day to earn the
win for the Pacers.
Game two showed more offense for the Pacers. Holly Braswell
proved to be the base sweeper as she was able to knock
in eight runners to give Peace one-third of their total
offensive production. Braswell did so with only three
hits out of five at bats, but half of her RBI’s
came when she took “broke the spirit” of
Salem with a grand slam home run in the top of the fourth
inning. Ashley Stansbury, Kenni Seagroves, and Joanie
Blevins all added three RBI’s a piece to help
pace the Peace offense. Brooke Sykes cruised on the
mound for Peace. The First Year pitcher went the distance,
while only surrending one hit in the shut out effort.
The final score was a commanding 25-0 victory for the
Pacers.
Peace returned back home, but did not have the luxury
of playing in Wachovia Park. The Pacers had to visit
cross-town rival Meredith on Wednesday and dismantled
the soon to be USA Conference foe in consecutive games
24-4 and 10-2. Stansbury again succeeded in knocking
in base runners as she produced six RBI’s in game
one. Crandall also added to the offensive output by
plating four runners and Braswell continued her success
at the plate by bringing three runners to home plate
in the win. Three Pacers recorded home runs in the win.
Stansbury, Crandall, and Kenni Seagroves all found the
Angels in the outfield as their ball cleared the outfield
fence. Joanie Blevins went the distance on the mound
for Peace to get the win.
The night cap for the Pacers showed that the visitors
must have had signs of fatigue from spreading line drives
around the field for two consecutive days. Peace could
“only” muster ten runs in game two versus
Meredith, but was obviously good enough to earn them
the victory 10-2 over the Angels. Game one pitcher,
Joanie Blevins made sure to help her fellow hurler on
the mound. Blevins belted out four RBI’s to lead
the Pacers while going 2 for 4 in the game. Peace received
help from everyone on the team, but pitcher Lauren Pleasant
made sure that she closed things out with no mistakes.
The senior pitcher held the Angels to five hits, while
only surrending one earned run in the winning effort.
Peace vaulted their record to 5-3 overall (0-2 USA South)
with the four game win streak. The Pacers return to
action when they take to the road again this weekend.
Peace will travel to the tidewater area of Virginia
for annual Atlantic versus East Challenge. Peace will
take on Polytechnic University and Juniata College on
Friday and Albright College and Rutgers Newark on Saturday.
Peace will then travel to Roanoke, VA. to play Sweet
Briar College for a Sunday double header.
