The Peace College softball team ended a six game weekend trip by defeating Sweet Briar College today 11-3 and 10-6. The Pacer advanced to 9-5 overall, 0-2 in the USA South Athletic Conference.

In game one, Peace scored the first run in the top of the second with a 1-run homer by Kenni Seagroves. Both teams were scoreless in the third inning and Peace went on a hitting spree in the bottom of the fourth as Kristen Crandall and Summer Evans scored on a wild pitch to put the Pacers up 3-0. Lauren Pleasant hit a 2-run homer to extend the lead to 5-0. Seagroves singled and drove in the final run of the inning as Peace went up 6-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth. Sweet Briar remained scoreless through the seventh inning. In the top of the seventh Peace again scored 5 runs, starting off with a 2-run homer by Summer Evans. Holly Braswell also hit a 2-run homer, her seventh of the season, followed by a one-run homer by Ashley Stansbury. Sweet Briar found a spark in the bottom of the seventh as a two runners scored on a single by Ellis. Ellis then scored on an error by Summer Evans. Peace pitcher, Ashley Stansbury struck out Anderson of Sweet Briar for the third out as Peace and Stansbury (3-2) took the win 11-3.

In game two, Braswell, batting fourth, hit a two-run homer, her eighth on the season, to put the Pacers up 2-0 in the top of the first inning. Peace picked up one more run in the top of the second on an RBI single by Kristen Crandall to extend the Peace lead 3-0. Peace held Sweet Briar scoreless in the bottom of the second. In the top of the third, Peace scored on an RBI double by Lauren Pleasant, driving in Evans from third base. Braswell also doubled bringing in Pleasant for an RBI as Peace ended the top of three with a 5-0 lead. In the bottom of the third, Sweet Briar’s bats would warm up as Berry tripled and Cheanult singled to drive in the first Vixen run of the game. Cheanult would advance to second on a single by Ellis and would advance to third and go on to score on two errors by Peace catcher Brittany Coffee and cut the Peace lead to three. The Vixens held Peace scoreless in the top of the fourth and tied the game in the bottom of the fourth scoring 3 runs. Cheanult hit a single to drive in Maroney for the first run of the inning. Mullaly for two RBI’s, driving in Cheanult and Berry to tie the game at 5 all. Peace was once again scoreless in the top of the fifth and Sweet Briar took the lead in the bottom on an RBI-single by Cheanult driving in Viar as the Vixen’s went ahead 6-5. The Pacers had enough and put up 5 more runs in the top of the sixth, starting off with a RBI-single by Lauren Pleasant. Ashley Stansbury scored the rest on a grand slam homer to put the Pacers up 10-6. Neither team would score again and Peace took the win and advanced to 9-5 overall. Stansbury would pick up the win from the mound advancing to 4-2 overall.

Peace will be in action again on Saturday, March 10th at home, hosting Southern Virginia University (NAIA) for a double header starting at 1:00 pm at Wachovia Athletic Park.
