Durham, NC
– The Peace tennis team suffered its first loss
of the 2006-07 season this afternoon as they traveled
to NC Central University and were defeated 4-5.
Seniors Liza Bridgers and Anna Jane Hesmer opened the
afternoon with a 8-4 win over Comesha Hickman and Amba
Mason at #1 doubles. Freshmen Kristin Robison and Ellen
Smith dropped the #2 doubles match 3-8 to Emily McQueen
and Antionette Spain. At #3 doubles, Senior-Sophomore
combo Lucy Mauney and Deneshia Craven were defeated
by Siobhan Green and Stephanie Hines 7-9.
At the #1 singles flight, Bridgers defeated Hickman
0-6, 6-2 and 10-7. Hesmer lost the #2 flight singles
match to Mason 4-6 and 5-7. The Pacers picked two more
wins at the #3 flight as Smith defeated Spain 6-4 and
6-3 and Robison at the #4 flight outlasted McQueen 6-3,
6-3. The momentum shifted again as Mauney fell to Hines
5-7 and 0-6 at the #5 flight and Craven lost to Greene
2-6 and 1-6 at the #6 flight.
Peace, 0-2 overall, will be in action again on Saturday
at home, hosting Guilford College for a 1:00 pm start
time.
