Ferrum, VA
– The Peace College volleyball team split a pair
of matches over the weekend by defeating North Carolina
Wesleyan College in three games (30-28, 30-28, 30-24),
but fell to Shenandoah University in five games (30-27,
32-34, 30-25, 22-30, 12-15) on Saturday.
In the opening match Peace found plenty of offensive
firepower from Annie Lyons and Nicole Corn. Lyons recorded
twelve kills in the winning effort, while Corn added
another eleven to give Peace the three game sweep. Erin
Pike and Bridget Corbitt combined to give the Pacers
thirty-five set assists and Jordan Morris led the team
with ten digs. Corn also chipped in nine digs to add
to her stellar play.
In the second game, Shenandoah was able to slide by
the Pacers in five games after the Pacers jumped out
to a 2-1 lead after three games. Peace dropped the final
two games giving the Hornets the win. The trio of Annie
Lyons, Kelsey Midgett, and Nicole Corn helped spark
the Pacer offense. Lyons recorded seventeen kills in
the match, while Midgett pounded out ten, and Corn slapped
fourteen down. Corn also contributed with twelve digs
and six service aces. Setters Erin Pike and Bridget
Corbitt both eclipsed the twenty set assists mark with
Pike coming up with twenty-six and Corbitt flipping
up twenty. Jordan Morris was able to come up with twenty-one
digs on the afternoon.
Following the two matches Peace moves to 7-7 overall
(1-5 USA South). The Pacers will be back in action on
Wednesday as they travel to Danville, VA to take on
Averett University.
