Raleigh, NC--The Pacers lost an aggressive match-up against a well-coached 7-player Mary Baldwin team (73-66). Peace led for the first 10 minutes of the game but headed into the locker room down by 9 points. Peace controlled the lead only three more times but could not maintain advantage.

With 14 minutes to go in the second half, Peace went on a 10-0 run to go up by 1 point. A jumper by junior guard Christy Freeman (Lumberton, NC/Lumberton), who led all with 20 points in the loss, sparked the run. Junior defensive threat Anna Prorock (Raleigh, NC/N Raleigh Christian) created a turnover from the Squirrels and teammate junior forward Brittany Lynn (Raleigh, NC/N Raleigh Christian) scored a bucket. Prorock followed with a 3-pointer after another defensive stop from the Pacers to come within 1. Sophomore point guard LeAnne Horne (Monroe, NC/Parkwood) grabbed a defensive rebound off a missed 3-pointer from Mary Baldwin and Lynn followed with a layup. Sophomore forward Emily Deal assisted Lynn's bucket.

Peace stayed in the fight a few more posessions with another bucket from Freeman and a jumper by first-year shooter Margaret Minton (Oak Ridge, NC/Bishop McGuiness). The Squirrels countered with 2 more threes and a solid free throw shooting.

Lynn finished the game with 12 points and 3 steals. Prorock and Freeman each recorded 2 steals as well in the loss. Defensive rebounding from the Squirrels limited the Pacers 2nd chance opportunities.

Mary Baldwin's Kara Hawkins recorded the games only double-double with 12 of those rebounds (8 defensive) and 16 points. Teammates Jessica Carter and Christie Hamilton also reached double digits scoring 22 and 18 points, respectively.

The Pacer basketball team is selling raffle tickets good for a chance to see Women's Division I hoops (UNC-Chapel Hill at Duke) and 2 tickets for a Carolina Hurricanes game on March 8. The second of 3 drawings will be held after Saturday's game against Ferrum College, February 2.

Peace College hosts Ferrum College Saturday, February 2 at 2:00pm. This game falls during the Pacers Athletics Recruit Weekend February 2-3. The Pacers are in Greensboro next playing Greensboro College Tuesday, January 29 at 7:00pm. See you on the sidelines!
