Peace Loses Heartbreaker in Overtime

Raleigh, NC--The Peace College Basketball team lost a heartbreaker at home this afternoon against USA South opponent Shenandoah University (78-73). The Pacers led by as many as 9 points in the second period (10:15) but could not hold the lead down the stretch. The Hornets chipped away at that lead and got to within 5 at 3:45. The Hornets tied the ballgame with 01:44 remaining in regulation.

Peace continued to push as junior forward Lauren Seeger (Greensboro, NC/Page) made 3-4 free throws in those final seconds to get the Pacers in the lead. With 4 seconds remaining Shenandoah point guard Katherine Flint made a 3-point basket to send the game into overtime.

The Hornets scored first in overtime with 2 free throws by Alexis Hargbol at 04:27. The advantage stretched to 7 with 01:46 remaining. Peace chipped away at that lead with 2 buckets by sophomore leader LeAnne Horne (Monroe, NC/Parkwood) and a 3-pointer from first-year Kayla Mitchell (Walnut Cove, NC/West Stokes) to come within 3 with 7 seconds left. Flint sealed the deal for the Hornets with 2 free throws after a must foul from Pacer defensive threat Candra Hill (Clinton, NC/Clinton).

Horne led the Pacers with 14 points and 2 steal. Seeger added 12 points and an awesome 7 steals. Junior forward Brittany Lynn (Raleigh, NC/N Raleigh Christian) added 10 from the field and a team-high 7 rebounds.

Alexis Hargbol led Shenandoah with a double-double scoring 24 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Sierra Edwards scored a new career-high 24 points and Flint added 18.

Peace travels to Fayetteville Thursday for a 7:00pm tip-off with Methodist University who sits in a 3-way tie for first in USA South standings. The Pacers come back to Raleigh for a meeting with cross-town rival Meredith College. Game tips off at 2:00pm in Weatherspoon Gym at Meredith.
