Fayetteville,
NC--The USA South Conference pre-season basketball polls
were released today. Last year's regular season title
winner Ferrum College in Virginia received four of ten
first-place votes (coaches do not vote for their own
team) and was picked to win this year's women's basketball
title. Christopher Newport University in Newport News,
VA received 65 points to place the Captains second in
the poll.
The Pacers earned one first-place
vote and finished sixth in the pre-season poll with
47 points. Peace returns nine players this year, including
second-team All-Conference recipient junior Christy
Freeman (Lumberton, NC/Lumberton). Freeman was the Pacers'
leading score in the 2006-07 season averaging 13.6 points
per game. Freeman also led the team in assists and steals
with 3.3 and 2.3 per game, respectively. Junior Lauren
Seeger (Greensboro, NC/Page) recorded the team's highest
rebounding average with 7.5 per game. Other Pacer standout
sophomore LeAnne Horne (Monroe, NC/Parkwood) recorded
8.1 points per game and averaged 2.0 steals each game.
