Fayetteville, NC--The USA South Conference pre-season basketball polls were released today. Last year's regular season title winner Ferrum College in Virginia received four of ten first-place votes (coaches do not vote for their own team) and was picked to win this year's women's basketball title. Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA received 65 points to place the Captains second in the poll.

The Pacers earned one first-place vote and finished sixth in the pre-season poll with 47 points. Peace returns nine players this year, including second-team All-Conference recipient junior Christy Freeman (Lumberton, NC/Lumberton). Freeman was the Pacers' leading score in the 2006-07 season averaging 13.6 points per game. Freeman also led the team in assists and steals with 3.3 and 2.3 per game, respectively. Junior Lauren Seeger (Greensboro, NC/Page) recorded the team's highest rebounding average with 7.5 per game. Other Pacer standout sophomore LeAnne Horne (Monroe, NC/Parkwood) recorded 8.1 points per game and averaged 2.0 steals each game.

Join the Pacers in mid-November with the annual season opening Jackie Ammons Memorial Tournament. Peace will host Bennett College of Greensboro, Salem College of Winston-Salem and Simmons College of Boston, MA.
