Danville,
VA--Peace College lost their first conference game of
the season at Averett University tonight (59-48). The
Pacers opened up strong against the Cougars, the first
game since mid-December. With the help of juniors Lauren
Seeger of Greensboro, NC (Page) and Christy Freeman
of Lumberton, NC (Lumberton) the Pacers led for the
first 15 minutes of the game. The Pacer defense forced
16 Cougar turnovers in the first half and gave Peace
early control of the game. Freeman led her team with
12 points and 2 steals. Seeger recorded 8 points and
5 rebounds. Sophomore guard LeAnne Horne (Monroe, NC/Parkwood)
added 8 points, grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds and
picked up 4 steals.
Foul trouble and unforced errors kept
the Pacers down for the rest of the game. Six team members
finished the game with at least 4 fouls. Short spurts
of patience on offense and continuous efforts defensively
gave few opportunities for a comeback but the Pacers
could not capitalize. Sophomore Candra Hill (Clinton,
NC/Clinton) and junior Anna Prorock (Raleigh, NC/North
Raleigh Christian) helped the Pacer defense, and sophomore
forward Brenna Mickey (Winston-Salem, NC/North Forsyth)
gave the Pacers solid minutes in both halves. She finished
with 5 points and 3 rebounds and drew one of the team's
2 charges of the game. Freeman had the other.
The Pacers open up at home on January
15th hosting conference rival NC Wesleyan. Tip-off at
7:00pm. If you cannot make the game, listen LIVE by
