Newport News,
VA--Peace College lost a close one to the Shipbuilders
of Newport News Apprentice (50-48). Sophomore LeAnne
Horne (Monroe, NC/Parkwood) led the Pacers with 13 points,
adding 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Junior guard Christy
Freeman (Lumberton, NC/Lumberton) added 11 points, 4
rebounds, and 2 steals. Junior Lauren Seeger (Greensboro,
NC/Page) led the defense with 6 defensive rebounds and
5 steals. Junior forward Brittany Lynn (Raleigh, NC/North
Raleigh Christian) added 5 rebounds on the defensive
end and 3 steals for the Pacers.
Peace led much of the first half and
went into the locker room just 2 points down at the
half. A good run and solid opportunities gave Peace
a chance to finish off the Shipbuilders. Peace led by
1 point with just over a minute to go in the game but
could not capitalize on a 2 offensive rebounds. The
Shipbuilders scored a layup in the final seconds. Peace
tried to force another offensive opportunity with a
foul by Horne. Unfortunately, the ball would not fall
on a quick attempt by junior Amanda Cross (Clemmons,
NC/Bishop McGuiness) who gave the Pacers 5 points and
2 steals in the loss.
In spite of injury and illness, Peace
came close to adding a win in the final game of 2007.
Hopefully, a fresh Pacer squad will regroup in the New
Year with Averette University. Peace travels to Danville,
VA on January 8 for a 7:00pm tip-off. Catch tonight's
game and others on the Pacer web cast (link from the
schedule page). See you on the sidelines!
