College defeated the Wildcats of Randolph College 2-1
in today's match-up at SAS Soccer Park. In front of
a solid crowd, the Pacers consistently challenged the
Randolph goalkeeper (54 shots) and never let up. Randolph
scored first in period 1 with 15 minutes left in the
half. Pacer sophomore Harlonda Smith of Huntersville,
NC countered with 10 minutes left in the game to take
the match into overtime.
Seven minutes into a sudden-death
overtime, sophomore Randal McLean of Lumberton, NC scored
to give the Pacers their first win of the season. McLean
was assisted by junior Brittany Ostlund of Kill Devil
Hills, NC. McLean led the team in shots on goal with
12 followed by Smith with 7. Sophomore Jennifer Gilbert
of nearby Burlington played a strong game for the Pacers
and added 6 shot attempts. Junior defender Abigail McCourt
of West Chester, PA and sweeper Katelynn Spencer of
Albemarle, NC pushed back the opponents to help keeper
Sherry Revels. First-year Revels of Apex, NC recorded
8 saves on the 10 shots from the Wildcats.
CONGRATULATIONS PACERS!
The Pacers travel this week to Salem
College on Wednesday and to Emory & Henry in Emory,
VA the following Monday. Peace is back at home at SAS
Soccer Park on September 19 with their conference opener
versus the Monarchs of Methodist University at 4:00
