Virginia--Peace
College traveled to Winchester, VA for their second
conference match of the season and lost 7-1 to the Hornets
of Shenandoah University (2-5-0, 1-1-0). In Saturday's
match-up, the Pacers' leading scorer sophomore Harlonda
Smith earned a goal just before the half to put her
team on the board. Smith recorded 4 shots for the game
leading a solid offensive effort for her team with the
help of junior Salma Taylor in the midfield. The Hornets
scored 2 goals in the early 10 minutes on junior goalie
Brittany Ostlund who filled in for the day in this position.
Ostlund stepped up strong for her squad in the absence
of the Pacers regular goalie. Ostlund had 4 saves for
the Pacers. Shenandoah scored 2 more goals in the first
12 minutes of the second period to finish the day's
scoring.
The Pacers moved to Newport News,
VA Sunday for a match with conference counterpart Christopher
Newport University losing 7-0. Sunday's game rounded
out a tough road trip for the Pacer squad. Once again
Smith pressured her opponents and led a strong effort
at the Captains' net recording a team-high 3 shots for
the squad. First-year goalie Sherry Revels was back
in the Pacer net scooping up 11 saves for her team.
First-year sweeper Katelynn Spencer battled in the backfield
for the Pacers to assist the keeper.
Peace has the week to prepare for
the Bishops of NC Wesleyan (1-5-0, 0-2-0). The Pacers
will enter Saturday's match 1-7-1, 0-3-0. Come cheer
on your Pacers at SAS Soccer Park in Cary, NC for this
evening match (6:00pm).
