Raleigh, NC--The
Pacers defeated fellow USA South member today 6-1 with
a strong offensive effort. Peace outshot the Cougars
45-15 in the win. Sophomore offensive leader Harlonda
Smith scored a hat trick for the Pacers all in the 2nd
period. Each of her goals went unassisted, her 3rd scored
in the final few minutes of the match.
First-year forward Megan Franklin
started the Pacers off at 6:34 with a goal assisted
by Smith. Sophomore mid-fielder Haley Bright added goal
number 2 for Peace 9 minutes later assisted by sophomore
Heatherlynn Honeycutt. Honeycutt added a the first goal
of the 2nd period with a sweet passing exhibition from
Smith-to-Bright-to-Honeycutt-to-net. Averett countered
in period 2 with a goal from Christy Urso.
The defensive backfield for the Pacers
pushed back any offensive efforts from the Cougars.
First-year sweeper Katelynn Spencer, sophomore Mary
Caitlin Smith and junior Salma Taylor worked together
to limit any attack formed by the Cougars.
Harlonda Smith led her team with 17
shots and 3 goals. Sophomores Randal McLean and Honeycutt
had 7 a piece. Mary Caitlin Smith added 6 within her
defensive push. And Bright added 5 from the mid-field.
Peace hosts Mary Baldwin College in
their final regular season home match next Saturday
at WRAL Soccer Center. Kick-off begins at 5:00pm. See
