Cary, NC--The
Pacers lost to Meredith College today at the soggy SAS
Soccer Park (5-0). The Avenging Angels are tied for
3rd with Greensboro College in the USA South regular
season. Several short, light rain showers fell on the
field but the game played on. Meredith shut-down the
Pacer offense outshooting Peace 42-7. The Angels scored
2 goals in the first period from Alex Calvert and Maggie
Barilich. The next 2 came mid-way through the 2nd half
from Nicole Boucher followed by the 5th from Barilich
in the final minutes.
Peace kept pushing until the final
minutes of the match. The Pacers had a couple of solid
shots on the goal but could not capitalize. Forwards
Harlonda Smith, sophomore from Huntersville, NC, and
first-year Megain Franklin of Henderson each targeted
the net 3 times. First-year keeper Sherry Revels recorded
16 saves in the loss.
But the leader on the Pacer squad
today is sophomore defender Jennifer Gilbert of Burlington,
NC. Gilbert showed her numbers all over the field defensively
for Peace. She handled key attacks from the Angels and
hustled to move the ball towards the Pacer goal. Gilbert's
constant effort kept the Pacers in the match until the
final moments.
Peace travels next to Greensboro College
for the final regular season match of the season. Kick-off
begins at 2:00pm Saturday. See you on the sidelines!
