Newport News,
VA--Peace wrapped up a 5-1 weekend sweeping the Giants
of Keystone College (PA) in Sunday's double header in
Newport News, VA (21-0, 16-1). Sophomore pitcher Ashley
Stansbury (Rougemont, NC/Northern Durham) earned her
first career no-hitter in game one. Stansbury doubled
to right field in the second inning to give her 3 RBIs
for the game.
First-year catcher Morgan Weathington
(Raleigh, NC/Cape Fear) went 3-4 from the box. In the
fourth inning the Pacers earned 9 hits and scored 8
runs, including a 3-run homer from Weathington. She
also doubled in the same inning and earned a game-high
4 RBIs. Weathington drove in first-year Breanne Hinnant
(Manteo, NC/Manteo) who singled and senior Kenni Seagroves
(Apex, NC/Apex) who doubled to left.
Junior Stephanie Monette (Conway,
SC/Newberry College) earned a win from the circle in
game two allowing only 2 hits and 1 run. She also led
the Pacers hitting 4-4 in the win. Senior Joanie Blevins
(Thurmond, NC/East Wilkes) went 3-4 earning 5 RBIs in
the win. Blevins doubled in the first and fourth to
drive up the score. Overall, Peace recorded 31 hits
and 30 RBIs in the double header.
The Giants lone run for the day came
from centerfielder Monica Connor who tripled in the
fourth. Teammate Katie Butzer earned and RBI driving
in Connor on a single to rightfield.
At the close of spring break, the
Pacers host Maryville College (TN) on Saturday, March
8. The following Wednesday, March 12, Peace welcomes
two-time Olympic Softball Gold Medalist Michele Smith.
Smith will throw out the first pitch at 1:00pm. See
