Raleigh, NC--Peace
College Softball added two more wins to their 9-3 record
sweeping the Scots of Maryville College (TN) in today's
windy double header (3-0, 13-5). Sophomore Ashley Stansbury
(Rougemont, NC/Northern Durham) pitched a 4-hit shutout
with 8 strikeouts. Stansbury went 4-5 from the plate
on the day, including a single-run-homer in the fourth
inning of game 1 and a double in game 2.
Senior second baseman Joanie Blevins
(Thurmond, NC/East Wilkes) went 7-7 from the plate in
today's sweep earning 4 RBIs for the day. Defensively,
Blevins had 2 putouts and assisted with 2 others.
Junior Stephanie Monette (Conway,
SC/Newberry College) earned another win from the pitcher's
circle to give her 5-1 on the season. Monette was headed
to an 8-0 4-hit mercy shutout before the tides turned
in the top of the fifth. The Scots earned 5 hits and
4 runs in the fifth to force another bat from the Pacers.
Peace fought back and earned 5 runs of their own to
finish the game in 5. First-year shortstop Jessica Hogan
(Denton, NC/Southwestern Randolph) loaded the bases
with her single moving catcher Kristyn Trogdon (Asheboro,
NC/Southwestern Randolph) and third baseman Courtney
Long (Nakina, NC/South Columbus) to second and third.
Blevins singled and scored Trogdon and Long. Left fielder
Kasie Moore (Clayton, NC/Clayton) homered to add 3 RBIs
and end game 2.
The Pacers travel to Fayetteville,
NC Sunday for a match-up against DII Fayetteville State
University. The double header begins at 1:00pm. At the
home double header versus Swarthmore College Wednesday,
March 12, Peace welcomes two-time Olympic Softball Gold
Medalist Michele Smith. Smith will throw out the first
