Raleigh, NC
-- The Pacers swept the Cougars of Averett University
in today's double header (3-2, 3-0). Peace moves to
16-6 overall and 2-0 in the USA South. Averett finishes
the day 1-9 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
Junior pitcher Stephanie Monette (Conway,
SC/Newberry College) moves to 9-1 with today's 3-2 win
in game 1. Monette allowed 1 earned run in 9 hits with
2 walks and 1 strikeout. Peace picked up 3 singles in
the win; one each from first-years Courtney Long (Nakina,
NC/South Columbus) and Lindsey Moore (Clayton, NC/Clayton),
and one from sophomore Ashley Stansbury (Rougemont,
NC/Northern Durham) in the first inning. Stansbury and
Moore earned the only 2 RBIs for the Pacers.
Stansbury earned her second no-hitter
of the season in game 2 with 10 strikouts. First-year
left fielder Kasie Moore (Clayton, NC/Clayton) recorded
the only extra-base hit on the day for the Pacers with
a double in the fourth. Long went 2-3 from the plate.
First baseman Holly Braswell (Raleigh, NC/Garner) recorded
2 hits as well earning one of the team's six RBIs. Senior
second baseman Joanie Blevins (Thurmond, NC/East Wilkes)
had a single to center field in the first and earned
her RBI in the fifth with a fielder's choice.
While the Pacer hitting failed to
match recent performances, the team earned two solid
wins to begin the conference schedule. Peace hosts their
final non-conference opponent Thursday with Bridgewater
College at 2:00pm. See you on the sidelines!
