Ferrum, VA--Peace
split a conference double header today with the Panthers
of Ferrum College losing 9-1 in game one and winning
game two 5-1. The Pacers improved to 17-9 (3-1 USA South)
and Ferrum moved to 9-11 (3-1 USA South).
Courtney Long (Nakina, NC/South Columbus)
tripled in the first inning to jump start the Pacers.
Long was left on base with a ground ball to third from
Jessica Hogan (Denton, NC/Southwestern Randolph) and
strikeouts from Joanie Blevins (Thurmond, NC/East Wilkes)
and Kasie Moore (Clayton, NC/Clayton). Ashley Stansbury
(Rougemont, NC/Northern Durham) scored the lone run
for Peace with a home run in the second inning. Kristyn
Trogdon (Asheboro, NC/Southwestern Randolph) added the
final attempt for the Pacers with a single to center
field in the fifth but did not score.
Ferrum had a steady trail of hits
and runs recording 3 runs in the fourth and fifth to
finish the game early. Jalisa Poe led the Panthers with
3 hits earning 1 RBI. Kathleen Guliano added 2 hits
and 2 RBIs, and Megan Barger led all with 3 RBIs in
the win.
The Pacers turned the day around finishing
the split with the Panthers. Peace won game two with
a true team effort. Holly Braswell (Raleigh, NC/Garner)
and Kenni Seagroves (Apex, NC/Apex) each homered in
the second inning to put the Pacers in an early 2-0
lead. The Team finished in style with a 3-run seventh
inning finish to take the win. Hogan doubled advancing
Long who walked. Long scored on a throw in the same
at-batt. Stansbury doubled to score Hogan giving the
Pacers the 5-1 lead. Three quick outs from the Pacer
defense sealed the win.
Peace travels to Rocky Mount Wednesday,
March 26 for a 2:00pm double header versus the Bishops
of NC Wesleyan. The team returns to Wachovia Athletic
Park Saturday the 29th to host the Captains of Christopher
