Raleigh, NC--The Pacers split today's conference double header with the Captains of Christopher Newport University losing game one 5-0 and rallying in game two to win 5-4. Peace improves to 20-10 (6-2 USA South) while the Captains move to 18-7-1 (3-2-1 USA South).

The Captains started early in game one with a double from Mary Kennedy followed by an RBI single from Katie Moyers. The visitors continued their run with two more hits from Renee Ashworth and Megan Morris pushing the lead to 3-0 in the second.

The Pacers finally moved the bats in the third inning when Morgan Weathington (Raleigh, NC/Cape Fear) doubled to left center field. Peace left another hitter on the bag after Kasie Moore (Clayton, NC/Clayton) singled in the fifth. The team missed an opportunity in the sixth leaving 3 hitters on base: Weathington, Courtney Long (Nakina, NC/South Columbus), and Jessica Hogan (Denton, NC/Southwestern Randolph) each singled. CNU sealed the deal scoring 2 final runs off 2 hits and the second Pacer error to win.

Stephanie Monette (Conway, SC/Newberry College) picked up her tenth win of the season in game two. The Captains started strong once again scoring 2 runs early off hits from Menora Harper and Danielle Steel in the first and Kennedy and Moyers in the second. Weathington ignited the Pacer offense in the bottom of the third inning with a single to right field. Long followed with a single to center. Hogan scored Massengill who entered as a pinch runner for Kenni Seagroves (Apex, NC/Apex). Seagroves advanced early in the inning on a walk.

Peace kept the bats moving in the fourth with singles from Holly Braswell (Raleigh, NC/Garner), Joanie Blevins (Thurmond, NC/East Wilkes), and Kristyn Trogdon (Asheboro, NC/Southwestern Randolph). All three were left on base. Long tripled in the fifth and was left on base in spite of a strong hit to center field from K Moore.

CNU pushed the lead to 2 scoring another run in the sixth before the Pacers rallied in the bottom of the frame. Stansbury led the inning with a double to right field. Monette entered as her pinch runner. Braswell and Blevins walked to load the bases. Seagroves drew a walk to earn the first of 4 runs for Peace. Weathington singled to earn her fourth hit of the day scoring Blevins. Long walked in Seagroves. Hogan walked in Trogdon to score the winning run.

The skies continued to darken late in the game but the officials kept the tight game in play. Monette walked the lead-off batter in the seventh and Stansbury entered in relief. Stansbury held on in spite of a three wild pitches that scored the early walk. Braswell finished the win with an unassisted out at first.
