Winchester,
VA--The Pacers lost two to the Hornets of Shenandoah
University today (7-2, 5-4). Peace fell to 6-6 in conference
action, 20-14 overall. The Hornets improved to 9-1 in
the league, 21-7 overall.
Both teams played evenly in the first
two innings of game one before the Hornets made a 5
hit, 5 run move in the third to take control of the
game. The Pacers pressured the Hornet defense with a
single up the middle from Ashley Stansbury (Rougemont,
NC/Northern Durham). Joanie Blevins (Thurmond, NC/East
Wilkes) drew a walk moving Stansbury to second. First-year
Kasie Moore (Clayton, NC/Clayton) grounded out to the
pitcher pushing her teammates into scoring position.
Kenni Seagroves (Apex, NC/Apex) scored Stansbury and
Blevins on a single through the middle. Shenandoah stopped
the Pacers and scored two runs of their own in the bottom
of the frame to end the scoring for the game.
The Hornets started game two with
a two-run triple in the first. Both teams left runners
on base in the second with one hit apiece. Courtney
Long (Nakina, NC/South Columbus) walked in the third
and stole second. Jessica Hogan (Denton, NC/Southwestern
Randolph) moved Long to third with a sacrifice. Stansbury
hit an RBI single to put the Pacers on the board.
Peace retired the Hornets quickly
in the bottom of the third creating an opportunity to
tie the game. Kenni Seagroves followed-through for the
Pacers with an RBI double. Seagroves scored Blevins
who reached on a Hornet error. Shenandoah made a pitching
change and the Hornets forced Peace to leave Seagroves
at third.
Peace regained momentum in the fifth
scoring two runs off a single from Hogan and unselfish
at-bats from Stansbury and K Moore. Long led the inning
with a walk and Hogan moved her to second with a bunt.
Stansbury moved Long into scoring position, and K Moore
earned an RBI with a sacrifice to left field. Blevins
earned an RBI scoring Hogan on a Hornet error.
The Hornets added a run off 2 hits
in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game. Peace went
cold in the next two innings leaving 2 potential runs
on base. The Hornets ended the game in the seventh with
a 2-run double to center field.
Peace stops in Staunton, VA on the
way back to NC Sunday to challenge Mary Baldwin. Join
the Pacers back at Wachovia Athletic Park Wednesday,
April 9 as we honor our seniors and play the Avenging
Angels of Meredith College. The conference double header
begins at 3:00pm.
Saturday, April 12 the team hosts
Greensboro College in the StrikeOut Cancer game. Bring
