Raleigh, NC--The
Pacers solidly defeated the Hawks of Chowan University
today in Raleigh (8-1). Peace improved to 1-3 on the
season and the Hawks move to 1-5.
First-year number one doubles pair
Lauren Marion (Greensboro, NC/Southeast Guilford) and
Katie Lamb (Kitty Hawk, NC/Manteo) led the way 8-1.
Senior Lucy Mauney (Southern Shores, NC/Manteo) and
Carol Ann Duke (Salisbury, NC/Salisbury) won their number
two match 8-2. Number three doubles senior Ella Dickens
(Sanford, NC/Western Harnett) and Cyndi Mandese (Durham,
NC/Riverside) rounded out the trio with an 8-2 win over
Hawks' Brittany Allen and Brittany Johnson.
Marion took her number one singles
match to a tiebreaker winning 4-6, 7-5 (10-8). Dickens
swept Melinda Williams 6-0, 6-0. Mauney also won in
two games at the number 4 spot (6-1, 6-3). Duke picked
up her first win of the year winning 6-3, 6-3, and Mandese
rounded out the day at number six with a win over Shirley
Baines (6-0, 6-3).
Peace travels to Danville, VA next
Wednesday, March 18 for their first conference match
of 2008. The team returns to the Ragland Courts Thursday
for a 4:00pm match versus USA South foe Ferrum College.
