Raleigh, NC--Peace
closed the season today hosting a make-up match with
nearby North Carolina Central University, new members
of the NCAA Division I. The Pacers lost 8-1 but scored
solid points against a tough Eagles team.
Congratulations to seniors Ella Dickens
(Sanford, NC/Southwestern Harnett) and Lucy Mauney (Southern
Shores, NC/Manteo) for closing out a successful collegiate
tennis career on the Ragland Courts. Mauney fought her
tough competitor Antionette Spain leading 1-0 after
winning the first set 6-4. Spain gained momentum and
captured set two 6-2 forcing a tie breaker. Mauney lost
10-6 in the closely fought tie breaker.
Katie Lamb (Kitty Hawk, NC/Manteo)
and partner Ksenia Kulik (Moscow, Russia) picked up
the lone win of the day for Peace defeating Lakisha
McDougald and Ashley McRae 8-5 during the opening doubles
round at the number three spot.
The senior players will lead their
team in the USA South Conference quarter-final opener
as the Pacers face-off Meredith College in Burlington,
NC. The team challenges the Angels Friday, April 18
at the Burlington Tennis Center in Burlington beginning
