NC--In day-2 of the Chowan Invitational Volleyball Tournament,
the Pacers charged through their final 2 matches of
tournament play to move into the semi-finals. Peace
defeated Salem College 3-1 after losing game 1, 29-31.
Senior middle Shamica Phillips of Wilson, NC recorded
a team-high 13 kills for the match and added 5 blocks.
Senior setters Erin Pike of Kinston, NC and Bridget
Corbitt of Moyock, NC combined for 36 assists for the
game. Corbitt also added a team-high 14 digs in this
first match of the day.
Game-2 on Saturday versus St. Paul's
College of Virginia gave the Pacers a 2-2 record for
the tournament (3-1). First-Year Kerra Gore of Beaufort,
NC joined the leaders of the day with 16 kills and 5
blocks. Gore began play this weekend after sitting out
the Pacers opening tournament with a shoulder injury.
Junior transfer Tiffany DeLeone of Clinton, NC added
16 digs as the Pacer DS. Corbit recorded 22 assists
and Phillips 14 kills to help push the Pacers to a win.
A 2-2 record placed the Pacers in
3rd in tournment standings earning them a berth in the
semi-finals. Peace paired off once again with USA South
Conference rival NC Wesleyan. Peace won the 1st 2 games
30-26, 30-28 in a very different matchup from Friday's
0-3 loss. The Pacers finished the tournament in 3rd
place behind the Bishops. Pike earned a spot on the
all-tournament team in part for her 23 assists and 2
aces from this final match. Gore led the front-line
with 21 kills and 20 blocks (12 solo). Libero DeLeone
finished strong with 23 digs for the Pacers.
