Raleigh, NC--Peace
College lost to the Hawks of Chowan University tonight
(3-0). But you must look beyond the match score to see
the change in this new Pacer squad. Peace lost to the
Hawks two-and-a-half weeks ago 3-0 in a much different
match. Tonight the Pacers recorded 40 kills to the Hawks
52 and outmatched the Hawks in blocks 13 to 4. Defensively,
the teams were even with 64 digs a piece. The three
games were much closer in score finishing 36-34, 30-18,
30-28. Peace had the momentum many times during the
match and came back in game three to challenge the Hawks'
finish.
First-year middle hitter Kerra Gore
continues to improve at the frontline and finished tonight
with 10 kills, 5 blocks and 1 dig. Senior setters Erin
Pike and Bridget Corbitt once again served the leadership
role in the match. Pike recorded 16 assists, 10 digs
and 1 kill while Corbitt added 20 assists and 6 digs
for the team. First-year right side hitter Brandi Pinnell
of Louisburg, NC played solid minutes for her squad.
She recorded 1 kill, 1 assist and 2 digs but impacted
the rotation much more than the stats suggest.
Peace travels for the next three weeks,
including Wednesday night's match-up with rival Meredith
College just across town (7:00pm). Line up your schedule
for the squad's next home match on Saturday, October
13. The Pacers host Shenandoah University and NC Wesleyan
College in a USA South Tri-Match beginning at Noon.
