VA-- The Pacers finished today's USA South Tri-Match
1-1 with a win over host Shenandoah University in the
first match of the day (3-1; 30-26, 26-30, 31-29, 30-25).
Senior Shamica Phillips led the frontline with 10 kills
and 9 blocks. Senior setter Erin Pike led all with 21
assists for the match. Pike also added a kill and 8
digs for the Pacers. Sophomore Megan Melchiorre stepped
up once again for her squad contributing 9 kills, 11
digs, 7 blocks and an ace.
In match 2 for the day, the Pacers
lost to the Bishops of NC Wesleyan. This tough rival
defeated Peace in 3 close games (21-30, 27-30, 23-30).
First-year middle Kerra Gore continues to improve on
her frontline attack for the Pacers. Gore led the team
with 9 kills and 3 blocks in the loss. Junior libero
Stephanie Sports led all with 19 digs for the match.
Teammate junior Nicole Corn added 12 digs in the battle
with the Bishops. Corn also added 5 kills from the outside
for the Pacers.
Peace will see these 2 conference
rivals again when the Pacers return to their home court,
Saturday, October 13. The team travels next to Elizabeth
City State University on Tuesday. The Lady Vikings will
meet a much improved squad than was seen in the opening
match on September 1.
