Raleigh, NC--Peace College hosted
fellow USA South conference members Shenandoah University
and NC Wesleyan College in today's Tri-Match. The Bishops
of NC Wesleyan led the day 2-0 with the Hornets of SU
in 2nd finishing 1-1 above the Pacers.
The Pacers struggled in games 1 (30-24)
and 2 (30-21) of the day's 1st match versus the Hornets.
The Pacers fought back to win game 3 (30-28) only to
end the loss 30-26 in the 4th. Peace showed signs of
pulling ahead several times during the loss but failed
to get over the hump. Senior setter Erin Pike led the
team in assists with 26. Pike recorded 10 digs as well.
Her counterpart senior setter Bridget Corbitt led with
15 digs and added 21 assists for the Pacers. First-year
Kerra Gore led the frontline attack with 16 kills and
3 blocks from the middle.
In the final match of the day, Peace
fought hard against the Bishops for the 4th time this
season. Peace won game 1 (30-22) but lost its stride
in the next 3 (30-12, 30-18, 30-23). The setter duo
once again shined for the Pacers. Pike led with 27 assists
and 13 digs, and Corbitt added 14 assists and 11 digs
for her team. Leading the match for the Pacers was combo
Nicole Corn and Megan Melchiorre. Junior Corn led the
offensive attack with 14 kills. She added 22 digs as
well. Melchiorre added 11 kills and 23 digs to lead
the match defensively. First-year Kelli Woodard continues
to improve and earned 10 kills on the night.
The Pacers travel to Greensboro College
Wednesday night at 7:00pm. Peace returns to Raleigh
with the anticipated match with cross-town rival the
Avenging Angels of Meredith College. Peace won the first-ever
conference match-up between the 2 schools earlier this
fall when the volleyball team won in 5. |
