Raleigh, NC--Peace College lost tonight in a 3-game heartbreaker
to the Avenging Angels of Meredith College (32-34, 29-31,
27-30). Only a 3-point differential separated the opponents
in each of the games in front of a loud and supportive
crowd. Throughout the match the Pacers dug themselves
in and out of holes. The squad never lost faith and
came close multiple times within the match to coming
back for a win. Unfortunately, Meredith took the win
in 3.
Both teams finished this defensive
match with over 100 digs. For the Pacers, sophomore
outside Megan Melchiorre led with 23. Junior outside
Nicole Corn and senior libero Stephanie Sports followed
suit with 19 and 17, respectively. First-year middle
Kerra Gore added 9 blocks for the night.
Peace made a solid effort at the net
with Corn and Gore leading the Pacers with 9 kills apiece.
First-year Kelli Woodard added 6 from the outside. Senior
setters Erin Pike and Bridget Corbitt created offensive
opportunities for their team and finished with 19 and
13 assists, respectively, in the loss.
The Pacers turn right around and host
Guilford College Thursday night at the Hermann Student
Center. Match begins at 6:30pm. The team, coaches, and
fans celebrate the seniors in this final home match
of the season. See you on the sidelines!
