CHAMPS/Life Skills Kickoff Slated for Thursday
Raleigh, NC - The Peace College athletics department will kickoff the CHAMPS/Life Skills program (Changing Athletes' Minds for Personal Success) Thursday, January 14. Peace became of a member of this NCAA initiative in August 2009. Coordinator of Student-Athlete Success Kevin Daniels will lead the event for all Pacer student-athletes beginning at 7:00 pm in Kenan Recital Hall.
Daniels will give Pacer student-athletes an overview of the CHAMPS program, including resources and benefits of the program. Peace will also initiate a Pacer Cup Challenge intended to use competition as a motivator for student-athlete participation. Daniels will review the ground rules and point system that guide the team challenge, as well as providing a calendar of events throughout the semester.
CHAMPS supports the NCAA's mission "to maintain intercollegiate athletics as an integral part of the campus educational program and the student-athlete as an integral part of the student body." Specifically, the program focuses on five designated areas of the student-athlete educational experience: academics, athletics, career, personal development, and service.
"I am really excited about the CHAMPS program and what it can do for our student-athletes. It's principles are designed to help them become better students and overall better people. That's great for them and the community as a whole," comments Daniels.
