Peace Softball Drops First Game of USA South Conference Tournament to NC Wesleyan 1-10
BURLINGTON,
N.C. - Fifth-seeded NC Wesleyan registered the first upset of the
2007 USA South Conference softball tournament with a 10-1 victory
over fourth-seeded Peace College Friday afternoon at Springwood
Park.
The Lady Bishops (22-11) move on to face No. 1 Christopher Newport
in the winners bracket semi-finals Friday at 2:00. The Pacers
(25-14) are sent to an elimination game against Ferrum College at
4:00.
PC actually scored first with one run in the top of the second off
of winning pitcher Libby Fulford (16-7), but the Lady Bishops
answered with three runs in their next at-bat.
NC Wesleyan greeted Peace reliever Ashley Stansbury with six runs
in the fourth before scoring its final run in the top of the
fifth.
Stansbury, who gave up seven runs (two earned) on seven hits in two
innings. came on for Lauren Pleasant (9-4). Pleasant allowed three
runs on four hits and one walk in 3.0 innings of work.
Fulford struck out six while also going 2-for-3 with two RBI at the
plate. She drove in the second and third runs for her club with a
third-inning single to third base.
