Peace Eliminated From USA South Softball Tournament with 1-3 Loss to Ferrum College
BURLINGTON,
N.C. - Peace College became the first team eliminated from the 2007
USA South Conference Softball Tournament when Ferrum College
defeated the Pacers 3-1 Friday afternoon in the penultimate game of
the day.
The Panthers (16-23) now move on to play third-seeded Greensboro
College Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. Saturday game times have all
been moved up by one hour in an effort to get the tournament
completed by Saturday night.
The eight-team, double-elimination tournament was originally
scheduled to have the championship on Sunday. Saturday's
championship is now scheduled for 3:00 with the 'if' game set for
5:00.
FC scored one run in the second and after Peace (25-15) tied it
with one of its own in the third, scored once in the fourth and
another in the sixth to clinch the victory.
Lady Panthers pitcher Kim Cox (5-8) did the rest - she allowed just
the one run on four hits and three walks while striking out five in
the complete game victory.
PC was able to bring the tying run to the plate in the seventh
after pinch hitter Alex Byers drew a one-out walk, but Cox got a
strikeout and a pop to second to end the threat.
First baseman Lauren Blalock was 3-for-3 with an RBI to lead the
Ferrum offense.
