Monarchs Sweep Pacers

Raleigh, NC—The Pacers dropped a two-game sweep to the Monarchs of Methodist University today 6-0 and 8-6.  Peace moved to 12-14 overall, and to an even five in USA South play.  The visitors improved to 11-17 overall, 4-4 in league competition.

Ashley Stansbury (Bahama, NC) (9-6) took the loss in game five pitching a full seven-inning series.  She allowed 11 hits and 4 earned runs with 5 strikeouts and 3 walks.

The Pacers recorded only three hits in the loss.  The team had an opportunity in the sixth inning to challenge the Monarchs.  Courtney Long (Nakina, NC) and Stansbury both earned singles, Amanda Beach (Garner, NC) advanced on a walk, and Melissa Williams (Nashville, NC) on a fielder’s choice to load the bases.  Two force outs and a strikeout from Janna Joyner (Wilson, NC) left three on base with no runs scored.

The Pacers improved at the plate in game two but could not complete the win.  Stephanie Simmons (Wilmington, NC) (3-8) gave up ten hits and five runs with four strikeouts in seven innings pitched.

Plagued with costly mental errors throughout the game, the Pacers struggled to compete.  The team earned 10 hits in the game and rallied in the final frames to get close but could not finish.

Peace hosts USA South rivals Shenandoah University and Mary Baldwin College for 1:00 pm league doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday, respectively.   Come cheer on the Pacers in the final week of the season.  See you on the sidelines!
