Softball Splits League DH with Greensboro

Raleigh, NC -- Peace (3-1, 1-1 USAS) softball came back from a 2-0 game one loss versus The Pride of Greensboro College (2-4-1, 1-1 USAS) in today's first USA South softball pairing to even the series with a 3-2 win. 

Greensboro opened the scoring in game one with one run on two hits in the top of the third to take a 1-0 lead.  Kasie Moore cut off a second run with a strong throw home to Melissa Williams to end the threat. 

Sister Lindsey Moore stopped another advance at the plate with a throw home through third baseman Courtney Long to putout GC's Brittany Parsons.  Shortstop Morgan Weathington closed the inning and took her team to the dugout.

The Pride completed the scoring and sealed the win in the fifth on an RBI double to left center from shortstop Brittany Teer.

Peace improved their hitting percentage in game two but struggled in the field finishing with four errors to Greensboro's three.

GC opened the game with 1-0 lead in the top of the first.  Peace pitcher Kendra Yearick (2-0)struck out Kim Blust and Long caught a line drive to end the inning with two Pride runners left standing.

In the bottom of the frame, Long, who advanced on a walk and picked up two more bases with smart running, scored on a single from first baseman Amanda Rothwell to put Peace on the board.  The Pacers completed a perfect defensive run in the top of two to get right back to the bats. 

First-year Lindsey Haver crushed the ball to center field for a clean double in the second inning.  L Moore moved her to the corner on a single to left.  A new pitcher forced the next two outs to end the threat at home.

The teams were tied after two more innings.

Pacer centerfielder Candice McDanel led off in the sixth with a single and stole second.  Long advanced to first on an error to score McDanel and seal the league win.  

Peace travels to Guilford College Sunday to wrap up a long weekend.  The non-conference doubleheader is slated to begin at 1:00 pm.
