Championship Pacers!
Raleigh, NC -- The Pacers defeated Agnes Scott College 10-2 in today's Championship game of the Peace College Triangle Combat Classic. Peace opened the day with a 5-3 win over Sweet Briar. ASC rallied in the bottom of the fifth inning of game two, earning nine runs on nine hits, to defeat Wilson College 16-8. The win put the Scotties in the finals with Peace. WC defeated the Vixens 5-0 to earn third place overall this weekend.
Rookie Pacer Kendra Yearick was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. In 15.1 innings pitched, she earned two wins and one save, with 20 strikeouts, eight hits, nine walks, and an ERA of 3.52. Yearick hit 3-10 (.300) with five RBI, including one double.
Senior Ashley Stansbury and sophomore catcher Melissa Williams were also named to the all-tournament team. Stansbury hit 6-11 (.545) with three RBI and a homerun. She went 1-1 from the circle. Williams hit 7-15 (.467), including one double and two RBI.
The Pacers were perfect defensively in today's championship win. Shortstop Morgan Weathington hit 2-4 from the plate, including two RBI and a double to rightfield in the first inning.
Peace travels to Virginia Beach next weekend for Virginia Wesleyan's Beach Blast. The Pacers open tournament action with the University of Virginia at Wise Friday, March 5. The first pitch is slated for 11:00 am. The team returns to Wachovia Athletic Park March 10 for one more home doubleheader before spring break. See you on the sidelines!
