Pacers Take Win with Extra Innings

Lynchburg, VA -- The Pacer (7-1) softball team split today's doubleheader with Lynchburg College (4-2).  The Hornets took game one 6-0, while the teams battled through nine innings in game two before Peace sealed the 10-9 win.

Ashley Stansbury took the loss in game one with 3.0 innings pitched, including two earned runs on three hits.  Sophomore transfer Hannah McLeod completed the game allowing one earned run with two hits in 3.0 innings pitched.

Peace held a two-run lead in the middle of the sixth inning.  Lynchburg scored two to tie the game.  Both teams went scoreless in the seventh to push to extra innings. 

The Pacers picked up two more runs on two hits and one error in the top of eight.  The hosts once again tied the score at nine to force a ninth inning. 

In the top of the frame, Kendra Yearick was placed on second as required by the international tie breaker rule.  Second baseman Lindsey Haver scored Yearick on a double.  Candy McDanel advanced on a single and pushed Haver to third.  Courtney Long scored Haver with a sacrifice fly to cernter.  The Pacers held the Hornets to only one run in the bottom of the frame to seal the win.

Yearick pitched a complete game for the win.  She allowed 13 hits with six earned runs,six strikeouts, and five walks. 

Peace plays Wilkes College Saturday in a doubleheader on neutral soil at Christopher Newport.  First game is slated to begin at 11:00 am.  See you on the sidelines!
