Softball Picks Up Another Split
Newport News, VA -- Peace College (8-6) faced Wilkes University (1-2) in a doubleheader today at Christopher Newport's Captains Field to replace games lost due to the cancelled Beach Blast Tournament. Peace earned another come-from-behind win in game one scoring eight runs in the bottom of the fourth to finish 13-10. The Colonels took game two 7-5.
The Pacers found themselves down 7-4 coming up to bat in the bottom of four. The team rose to the occasion to record seven hits and eight runs in the frame. Smart batting combined with aggressive base running gave Peace an edge and the eventual win.
Rookie pitcher Kendra Yearick took over for Hannah McLeod in the fourth to earn her sixth win on the season.
Game two opened with five quick defensive frames before Wilkes mounted a seven-run lead in the bottom of the third. The Colonels combined for 10 hits, including two doubles to rightfield.
Peace rallied in the top of five to come within two. Lindsey Moore crushed a long ball to left and was pushed to second on a slap from Candy McDanel for the only two hits of the frame.
Each team would earn two more hits but remain scoreless to finish the game.
Peace is slated to play Baruch College at 11:00 am on the neutral field at Virginia Wesleyan College, followed by a tiebreaker with Wilkes at 1:00 pm. Check the website for a link to live stats for both games.
The team returns to Wachovia Athletic Park Wednesday, March 10, to host the Garnets of Swarthmore College. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 2:00 pm. See you on the sidelines!
