Softball Wins Two

Norfolk, VA -- The Pacers rounded out a weekend trip to Virginia with two non-league wins. Peace defeated Baruch College 7-2, followed by a 7-1 win over Wilkes University in eight innings.

Senior Ashley Stansbury pitched a complete game to earn the win over the Bearcats. She earned two runs on six hits with four strikouts. Stansbury also picked up a RBI-double in the third to seal the win for Peace.

Wilkes and Peace played an even game in what turned out to be today's tiebreaker. The teams split in Saturday's doubleheader at Captains Field.

The Pacers opened the game with a leadoff walk from Courtney Long. Morgan Weathington moved her to second with a sacrifice bunt to the left side. Batter number three Amanda Rothwell followed suit with a line drive double to right center scoring Long.

The Colonels tied the game on a sacrifice fly to centerfield in the bottom of the third inning. Both teams remained scoreless during the remaining four innings of regulation.

Peace rallied in the top of the eighth with seven runs giving the team cushion going into the bottom of the frame. Catcher Melissa Williams singled through the left side scoring Rothwell who was placed on second to begin the inning as required by the tiebreaker rule. Pinch runner Sophia Jacobs advanced two bases on wild pitches and scored on a ground out by Lindsey Moore. Kasie Moore and Lindsey Haver each advanced on a walk.

Tatum Townsend entered as a pinch hitter and scored both base runners with a triple down the right field line. Weathington continued the rally scoring two final runs on a drive to right.

Winning pitcher Kendra Yearick (7-1) finished the game with a line drive to Weathington, followed by two infield grounders end the frame. She allowed five hits with no runs earned and seven strikeouts.

The Pacers host Swarthmore College Wednesday at Wachovia Athletic Park. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 2:00 pm. See you on the sidelines!
