Pacers Take the Garnets in Five
Raleigh, NC -- The Pacers swept visiting Swarthmore in two five-inning attempts at Wachovia Athletic Park today with an 11-0 win in game one and 8-0 in game two. Peace scored seven in the second inning of game two to take control and earn Ashley Stansbury her fourth win of the season. In the nightcap Tatum Townsend scored on a wild pitch to seal the win.
Courtney Long led off in the bottom of the first inning of the 2:00 pm game with a walk, then stole second. Shortstop Morgan Weathington did her job to move Long to third on a sacrifice. Amanda Rothwell followed Long to second on a walk and a steal. Catcher Melissa Williams sent both home on a single line drive through the left side to put Peace on the board with two.
The Pacers took advantage of a struggling pitcher in the bottom of the second to bring home seven more runs. Rothwell and Stansbury picked up a single apiece to help move runners. The team picked up a couple more runs on the way to the fifth inning for the win.
Game two played with more even scoring from the Pacers. Rothwell earned another single, then scored on a long double to center from Stansbury in the bottom of the first inning. Rothwell added a RBI-triple in the third to finish with four hits in six at bats on the day. Peace kept the bats moving and the runners running to complete the game early.
Kendra Yearick earned her eighth win this season allowing no runs on three hits with five strikeouts and a walk.
The Pacers travel to Salem, Viriginia during the opening weekend of spring break to compete in Ferrum College's invitational at the Moyer Complex. The team opens Saturday morning with Piedmont College followed by a 3:00 pm rematch with Baruch. Peace returns to Wachovia field Tuesday, March 23, to face league opponent Averett University. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 2:00 pm. See you on the sidelines!
