Pacers Drop Two to Angels

Raleigh, NC -- Peace (13-14, 2-6 USAS) dropped both games in today's softball doubleheader with cross-town rival Meredith College (15-9, 5-3 USAS).  In game one, the Avenging Angels pushed their lead to six in the top of the seventh inning and shutout PC in the bottom of the frame to win 8-2.  The Pacers took an early 3-2 lead in game two but went scoreless in the next six frames to lose 5-3.

The Pacers opened game one scoring one run on a RBI-single from catcher Melissa Williams.  She moved Amanda Rothwell, who advanced on a single up the middle, home.

Williams earned her second RBI of the game on a sacrifice-fly to leftfield.  The at-bat scored Morgan Weathington to push the Pacer lead to two.

Unfortunately for Peace, Meredith enjoyed two rallies to complete the 12-hit win over the hosts.  Winning pitcher Amanda Beirne (5-3) held the Pacers at the plate with 12 strikeouts and four walks.

Meredith took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning of game two.

In the bottom of the frame with two outs on the board, Ashley Stansbury singled to left center scoring Weathington who advanced on a walk.  Williams drilled one over the leftfield fence to give the Pacers a one-run lead.

Peace picked up two more hits during the game on singles from Rothwell and Kasie Moore but left both runners on base.

The Angels sealed the win ona two-RBI double from pitcher Guss Crist, her second of the game.

Join Peace Friday for a doubleheader versus the Captains of Christopher Newport.  The first pitch is slated for 2:30 pm at Wachovia Athletic Park.  See you on the sidelines!
