Pacers Add Two Wins at NC Wesleyan
Rocky Mount, NC -- The Peace Pacers (15-14, 4-6 USAS) softball team picked up two must-needed USA South wins today at North Carolina Wesleyan (11-12, 4-8 USAS) having lost eight of their last nine games. Ashley Stansbury earned her sixth win this season allowing only four hits and one earned run in the a 6-3 victory. Rookie Kendra Yearick pitched a complete 5-0 win to sweep the Battling Bishops in the nightcap.
Amanda Rothwell opened the scoring with an RBI-double to center field. The Bishops tied the game in the bottom of the second on a solo-run homer to left center.
Peace pushed the lead to four in the next frame with four runs on four singles. Kasie Moore doubled to left field in the top of the fifth and scored on sister Lindsey's single to center to complete the scoring for the Pacers.
NC Wesleyan scored two more runs but would not catch Peace.
Game two opened with a bang for Peace. Morgan Weathington advanced to first on a hit-by-pitch. Courtney Long and Rothwell loaded the bases on bunt singles. Stansbury advanced on a hit-by-pitch to put the Pacers on the board. Melissa Williams brought all three runners home on a double to left center and then stole third. Allison Gilmore scored Williams on a bunt single for what turned out to be the final run of the day.
The Pacers host league opponent Christopher Newport University (25-6, 6-2 USAS) Friday, April 2, in a doubleheader beginning at 2:30 pm. See you on the sidelines!
