Monarchs Sweep Softball in Evening Doubleheader

Fayetteville, NC -- Methodist University (14-18, 10-4 USAS) swept Peace (15-18, 4-10 USAS) in tonight's league doubleheader under the lights at Monarch field with scores of 4-2 and 11-3.   Three wild pitches and a Pacer error gave the hosts an early two-run advantage in game one.  In game two, the Monarchs scored nine before the end of three innings to take an early six-run lead that proved too much for Peace.

Kasie Moore notched the first Pacer double of game one and eventually scored on a wild pitch in the fifth inning to put Peace on the board.

A double each from Amanda Rothwell and Ashley Stansbury in the sixth scored another to pull the Pacers within two.

MU scored one more in the bottom of the frame to seal the two-run victory.

Peace opened game two strong.  Morgan Weathington advanced on a single through the left side and scored on an RBI-single from Stansbury.  Two more in the top of two gave Peace a three-run advantage.

Methodist began a two-inning rally in the bottom of the frame.  The team scored the first two on two singles and a walk, followed by a three-RBI double from MU's Katie Byrd.  The Monarchs added four more runs in the third.

The Pacer bats went cold for the remaining three innings while Methodist put two more on the board to complete the game in six.

Peace travels Friday to Shenandoah and then to Mary Baldwin Saturday.  The team returns to Wachovia Athletic Park Monday, April 12, to wrap up the regular season with a non-league event versus Shaw University.  Head Coach Charlie Dobbins and his team will celebrate the four-year career of senior Ashley Stansbury before the games.  See you on the sidelines!
