The Peace Pacers scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on wild pitches to edge Shenandoah, 2-1, and claim a split of their doubleheader with the Hornets after they dropped the first game, 11-0, in five innings.
Kasie Moore started the winning rally with a one-out walk. After a walk to Aaryn Deal, Anna Weavil reached on an infield hit to load the bases. Sarah Troxsler, running for Moore, tied the game on the wild pitch by Jordan Wolford.
Hornets manager Marlena Kotynski went to her bullpen, bringing in Misty Judd with the winning run on third base. But Judd proceeded to uncork a wild pitch of her own, giving the Pacers the victory.
The last-inning comeback made a winner out of Kendra Yearick, who limited Shenandoah to six hits and an unearned run.
The opening game was a completely different event, as the Hornets took advantage of six errors by the Pacers to post an easy win.
Brooke Over dominated Peace with four hitless innings, with one walk and seven strikeouts. Moore broke up the no-hitter with a single to center field with two outs in the fifth inning off Amanda Litwin. But the Pacers were unable to avoid an early end to the first game.
Peace closes its regular season with a doubleheader Saturday versus Mary Baldwin at Wachovia Athletic Field. First game starts at 1:00 pm.
