Monarchs sweep Pacers
Fayetteville, N.C. – Playing in their first games since the rain-shortened Beach Blast in Virginia, the Peace Pacers resumed USA South action but lost both games of a twinbill to the Methodist Monarchs. After dropping the first game 6-0, the Pacers surrendered five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and lost 6-5 in the nightcap.
A two-run single by Jacey Quarles highlighted a four-run sixth inning for Peace, giving the visitors a 5-1 lead. But the Monarchs rallied for five runs on four hits and two walks to take a one-run lead. The Pacers threatened in the top of the seventh inning, loading the bases on three walks. But Jessica Farmer put out the rally by inducing a pop-up for the game's final out.
In the opener Methodist jumped on top early, scoring three runs in the first inning. The Monarchs added a single run in the second and two more in the third en route to the easy win. Qualres and Meredith Brami had two hits apiece for Peace in the first game and Quarles finished the day with four hits.
The Pacers continue their road trip with two doubleheaders this weekend. Saturday they travel to Shenandoah to take on the Hornets while Sunday they go to Staunton, where they square off against Mary Baldwin.
