Krista Townsend spun a five-hit shutout to lead the No. 1 Christopher Newport Captains over the No. 8 Peace Pacers, 4-0 in USA South tournament action. The sophomore struck out 10 and did not allow a runner past second base.

Peace wins softball tournament opener
Morgan Weathington drove home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning with a bunt to lead the Peace Pacers to a 3-2 win over the North Carolina Wesleyan Battling Bishops in an opening round game of the USA South conference championship.

The Peace Pacers scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on wild pitches to edge Shenandoah, 2-1, and claim a split of their doubleheader with the Hornets after they dropped the first game, 11-0, in five innings.
