Pacer Basketball Ends with Loss to Mary Baldwin

Staunton, VA--The Pacers lost their final match of the season today to the Fighting Squirrels of Mary Baldwin College (86-64). The Squirrels won 3 of their final 4 games, including wins agaist #2 seeded Christopher Newport and #3 seeded Methodist. The Pacers struggled offensively much of the season and today was no different. The Squirrels outrebounded the Pacers 54-39 leaving Peace on the defensive end much of the game.

Sophomore guard LeAnne Horne (Monroe, NC/Parkwood) led the Pacers in scoring overall this season averaging 9.6 PPG. She had 14 points in today's loss and added 3 steals to her defensive tally. Junior forward Lauren Seeger (Greensboro, NC/Page) led Peace in rebounding this season averaging 6.1 RPG. She had a team-high 8 rebounds today and added 11 points to the mark. Seeger also led the Pacers with 3 assists in the loss.

The Squirrels' Jessica Carter and Christie Hamilton led scoring 33 and 28 points, respectively. Carter was 5-7 from 3-point land and Hamilton was perfect from the stripe with 9-9 shooting. Kara Hawkins led all with 13 rebounds in the game.

New USA South Conference rules dictate an 8-team conference tournament bracket forcing out Peace College and conference newcomer Meredith College. The young Pacer squad graduates no seniors and gives hope to improved play for the 2008-2009. Thanks to the Pacer fans and Peace College community for your continued support and confidence!
