Captains End Peace Season
Newport News, VA-The Captains of Christopher Newport University ended the Pacer tournament run early with tonight's 80-48 USA South quarterfinal victory in the Freeman Center. Peace finished the season with an 11-15 overall record, more than double the wins from last year. CNU moves on to the semifinals to play number one Greensboro College. Ferrum and Shenandoah meet in the second semifinal match-up Friday night.
The Pacers opened the game with two buckets from LeAnne Horne (Monroe, NC) but the Captains jumped ahead quickly with a 26-2 run during the next 9:18 to take control for good. The hosts shot 51.8% from the field including 6-9 shooting from three-point range. Peace just could not get their offense going.
Horne led Peace with 17 for the second game in a row but picked up little help from her teammates. Brenna Mickey (Winston-Salem, NC) added seven, including 3-4 from the stripe. Lauren Seeger (Greensboro, NC) completed her collegiate career tonight leading with nine Pacer rebounds.
The Captains' standout shooter Chelsea Schweers finished with 28, including 6-6 from the line and 6-8 from three-point range. Jessica Moore added 18 points and 9 rebounds. Alysa Kerr finished the night with the only double-double with 15 boards and 12 points. Peace College once again congratulates the four seniors on a solid four-year career with the Pacers. See you on the sidelines...next year!
