ODAC and USA South Again Split Senior Basketball All-Star Games
Hampden-Sydney, VA-The fourth annual ODAC-USA South Men and Women's Basketball Senior Challenge took place Sunday, March 22, at Hampden-Sydney College. For the third consecutive season, the two teams split; the ODAC women defeated the USA South women while the USA South men were victorious over the ODAC men.
Three of the Pacer basketball seniors along with Head Coach Kelly Johnson participated in the all-star contest, representing Peace College for the first time in three seasons.
The USA South women led by a score of 38-27 after two quarters before eventually falling, 79-76. The USA South had a chance to send the game into overtime but Methodist's Amanda Underwood had her three-point attempt spin off the rim at the buzzer. USA South Player of the Year, Greensboro's Dione Eccles led the team by tallying a double-double of 19 points and 14 rebounds, both of which were game-highs. She also added a game-high five assists and a team-high four steals. The only other USA South member in double-figures was Ferrum's Miranda Carrasco who contributed 13 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Pacer guard Christy Freeman started the game and finished with two points, three assists, and three rebounds. Forward Brittany Lynn entered off the bench to add seven points and seven rebounds. Lauren Seeger (Greensboro, NC) grabbed seven rebounds, adding two points, one steal, and one block.
For the ODAC All-Stars, Roanoke's Erin Jenkins scored a team-high 13 points with seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks. Bridgewater's Jennifer Saunders and Virginia Wesleyan's Jill Weston joined Jenkins in double-figures by scoring 12 and ten points, respectfully. With the win, the ODAC pulls even with the USA South in the series with each team owning two victories (2-2).
